Unusual flower?

I've had this Aztec Gold tree for years that recently began blooming. Unfortunately, the earliest flowers are falling off very easily. Well, I found 1 on the ground this morning that had 8 petals. Is this unusual, or will you find that from time to time?

Wow that is unusual. I have had a few flowers with six petals but never eight. But I don't remember which tree it was though.

Let me ammend that...actually, 9 petals on the flower...
