What you need to consider with a cutting is that it has no roots... the water will end up sitting against the cutting, which will promote rotting... this is also dependent on the soil mix... if there is adequate drainage (I use cactus mix and perlite) then this will be less of an issue... it also depends on how hot it is and where the cutting is located... I live in Phoenix where we're already getting 105 degree days, I can water cuttings a few times... since you live in Ohio I'd probably stick with the water once, give it plenty of bottom heat, and keep in a sunny location... hopefully someone from your area will be able to offer more advice... but the watering does depend on many factors...
