It looks to me like a Jerusalem Cherry.
It has many names.It is not a Pepper.

I have seeds that were labled "Persimmons Ornamental".
They have the same stuff as Datura has in it.
If you eat them you will either Clear your sinuses from a cold,see lots of colors and things that aren't there , get sick while seeing things that aren't there , get really sick and die.
Plants and fruit vary in toxicity from plant to plant,fruit to fruit and season to season.

I was growing it but I had to give it away.
Too many people thaught it was a hot pepper and wanted to taste it.
Nice looking plant and it grows pretty big and covers itself with fruit.Very colorful-even without eating any fruit. : )
Look at the leaf.It doesn't really look like a pepper the way the edges are.But with pods/fruit on it it does look pepperish.

Nice call, Smokemaster! I think you are exactly right. The leaves look like Datura. It is in the nightshade family of course, but definitely not a pepper.

Seems like I saw pics when I was trying to find out what the Persimmons ornamental was.
Some almost looked like cherry tomato fruit,some I think have a couple color changes too.

Thanks for the replies guys. I posted on behalf of my friend's grandad, who thought it was a capsicum.

She sent me an email saying 'He thinks its a cherry capsicum, that it might be ornamental, but he still has tried eating some'.... I am aware of the Datura species poison as this weed is everywhere on our farm, so I'm assuming if he was going to have any negative effects than it would have been immediate (within a day after consuming)?

Anyway, ill let him know this info. Thanks very much, you have saved this poor old bugger from getting sick lol!
