Rooting large branches, with leaves.

I'll be cutting down some large branches from my MIL's house. They range from 5' to 7', with smaller branches attached to the larger ones. This is off a healthy Celadyne. My question is: can I just stick it in the pot and they'll grow their roots? Should I remove all the leaves or is it not necessary? Leave the pots in shade for a week, 2 weeks?

I remove all the leaves. It helps me determine when they start to root, because I can easily discern all new leaf growth and figure I'm safe to water them again since I've heard no water until they root.
