Help with germinating seeds

I have bought bismarckia nobilis seeds, and washingtonia filifera seeds to germinate. I have never germinated seeds before, and I don't quite know the details. That being said, I have a few questions:

1) In your opinion, how long should I let the washingtonia filifera seeds soak? The bismarckia?

2) After the seeds soak, I don't know what to do with them in the bag of soil that I prepare. I am planning on using a 50/50 mixture of peat moss and perlite. Do I bury the seeds in this mixture in the bag? Or just set them on the top? If buried, how far down do I bury them?

Thanks in advance for clearing up my confusion. I really look forward to growing these palms! =]
