Jupiter Pepper

I sprouted some Jupiter Peppers which produced only a single cotyledon (first leaf) and it was notched, as if both first leaves were bonded together. Unfortunately only one of my seeds sprouted, so I don't know if the other seeds would have done the same thing.

Anyone else observed this with Jupiter Peppers, or do I have some kind of mutation?

Hey Rick,

If they're the Jupiter bell pepper from NMSU then I've not noticed any deformity/mutation (I've sprouted a dozen and grew out two last year).

If it's NMSU variety, you're in a different zone so you may have good luck for your plant but for me in 5a they were a lunch bag let down.

I've never grown this pepper, but I've had similar results on a few seedlings.
I think it was a result of the seed-shell pinching the cotyledons.

I have seen that as well.I agree with Josh. Usually the shell sticks to one of the leaves and it looks like a defect.

Doh!

Josh and romy6, I didn't even think of that. Kinda stupid since I have a dozen starts exhibiting the same issue.

Rick, I just let the seedling work it out on its own. 99% of the time the plant grows normal after the true leafs form.
