I have one left from a batch of seeds I germinated in Jan of 2012. I can't believe how slow they grow. The first summer he seemed to barely grow. He looked healthy, just small, He was over wintered in a south facing window. Last summer he grew to about a foot tall, flowered and gave me a dozen or so pods by summers end. He was overwintered again and he has begun growing and looking decent for an overwintered plant. I sure hope he earns his keep this summer.

Thanks Sandy. Glad to know they are slow growers, so I'll keep them. I don't usually overwinter plants...think they bring in bugs, but I may have to re-think this one. I heard about the hot sauce and wanted to try making some, but I guess I'll have to wait a while for them.

Anyone know where to find Wiri WIri seeds? A friend of mine from Trinidad is searching for seeds but says she can't find hardly any info on them.

I found wiri wiri pepper seeds on Amazon (along with scotch bonnet seeds). Over the winter, I tried germinating them in soil inside .. and the first batch didn't work. My uncle (we are Guyanese living in Canada), told me to fill a small mason jar with damp cotton balls, placing the seeds throughout, and keeping the lid loose so air could get in. I did this and put them in my north facing window. I worked! After they germinated, I planted them in small containers with soil and they grew beautifully. I replanted them in bigger pots (I remember my mother saying they need room), put them on my balcony in late April when the overnight temperature was good, west facing...and they are magnificent. These plants are thirsty so once outside need daily watering. I got wiri wiri peppers over this summer and still now into late September. I am, myself, wondering what to do with them over winter. I know I need to bring them in and keep them by the window as they need lots of sunshine ... but is there anything else. May start to add nutrition to the soil in November...but is there any other care I need to give it..other than keeping it out of the cold. BTW...no scotch bonnet seeds prospered..so I will try again in Nov to germinate them the same. Hope that helps. Wish the best..these plants need loving if you are growing them in the northern hemisphere.

I have been trying to grow wiri wiri peppers from seed for years and they almost always die after months as cotyledons. I have never been able to grow one much past why you see in this photo. I have experience growing many other varieties but I can’t seem to grow these. This one I have now has a couple of leaves but is still stunted and the leaves don’t look like any pepper I’ve ever grown before. Have any of you ever experienced this? Do you have any tips on how to grow wiri wiris?

I did eventually get one to grow, but I don't remember the details. It is a very large plant, and was loaded with peppers. Too bad I live so far north that they cold not ripen on the plant, even though I brought it in. They were very hot and I used them in hot sauce mixed with my other red peppers. Have not grown them since. Like Lisa, I watered them daily, gave them full sunlight, and fertilized the plant near the end of the season.

Home grown in florida. This plant is about 7 months old.

They need sunlight and daily watering - not with the outside cold water, but from inside tap water that is room temperature or lukewarm. Plant seedlings in large pots with holes for drainage; use potting soil and miracle grow once in a while for best results. When picking the red peppers, pick cleanly with stems on.

I bought seeds off the net. I dont think I will ever get a plant slowest growing plant ever encountered, Remember these as a kid back in the West Indies they were prolific quite small NOT half inch in diameter. Very unique smell and flavor. Internet seeds are extremely suspect, wish I had a legit supply

@hu-233033062 .If you indoor plant is flowering (white flowers) the reason it’s not bearing any peppers is because it needs to cross pollinate. Meaning you need the outdoors, bugs, ants, wind, bees, butterflies .. etc. If you are keeping it indoors, try taking a q-tip swab and gently touching each flower stalk (you become the pollinator) or sometimes you can shake the plant and pray that the pollen flying lands in the right spot 😊
