Looks like sunburn to me . Is some sun reflecting onto it?

I agree with disney. I also had severe sunburn on some of my plants after we first got our replacement windows. The sunlight reflected off the low emissions tinted windows was as hot as if it had been focused through a magnifying glass. First I covered the burnt sections with slit-open toilet paper rolls, but as the angle of the sun changed over the weeks, I constantly had to readjust the covered parts. Then, I got some extra (black) mosquito screen, cut it to size and taped it right over the glass. Not pretty, but problem solved. In the fall, winter and early spring months the sun is so low that I can remove the screens.

Thanks for the responses so far. As I sit here at 12:20 PM, there's no reflections of any kind yet, but as day progresses, I'll check back. Should it be as you suggest sunburn, can the plant recover? Will it always look damaged that way?

Mike, the first thing I would do is cover up the areas that are already burnt. I just checked on the plant that got the worst burns back then (it was a big branched cutting I was trying to root at the time). The scars have disappeared to the point where you can hardly tell there was ever any damage done. So don't give up hope. Good luck,

So it is a heat issue more than the actual sunlight? It's not like we would get a sunburn, then?
I'll find something to cover those spots and hopefully they'll be ok.

Mike, it is both: strong direct sunlight and - in my case - even worse the doubly strong light from the reflection. In fact, I only discovered it when my hand ended up in that focused light by accident. It actually hurt within maybe 30 seconds... At least you noticed the damage before the heat of summer sets in. Is there a chance that you can move the plant (if it is in a pot) to a location with less intense light to help it heal? Either way,I would still cover up the damaged tissue.
