Is your cutting well rooted? Or in the rooting process? Also, where are located?

If it's well rooted give it dappled sun now and gradually move to mostly sun in a few weeks.

If not rooted, keep out of rain and put in a very warm spot (maybe under an eave?). I like to put rooting cuttings under my glass patio table where it is warm, bright (but not scorching) and protected from excess moisture.

I am in zone 6, NY. How can I tell if it's well rooted - it's in a solid pot.

If it's rooted, you may be able to see small roots coming out the holes in the bottom. And, the developing leaves should be at least 4 to 6 inches in length.

If it has no leaves and just an inflo, it's not necessarily rooted and will still need to be kept dryish. Best conditions temp for rooting is 80 to 90 degrees soil temp. and high humidity, but no watering to soil. You can spray mist the cutting a little bit if you like.

I would actually say this approach is even more cautious than needed but put it in morning sun for a week and observe. if it still looks good then I would move it to morning and early afternoon sun for a week. If it took to that then I would let it be in sun dawn to dusk.

If anything its a methodology that you can observe results and adjust from there. good luck with it.

I keep my cuttings in filtered bright light, either indoors behind a lace curtain, or outside, under my brugmansia (tree!), until the cuttings put out enough leaf -growth to shade their trunks from sun damage, then gradually move them further out from under the brugmansia, until they're in full sun.

Down here, the sun has been stronger every year. I've been moving some of the plumeria out of the full mid-day sun and they seem to appreciate it. It just seems to depend on the cultivar.
