Hmm, I think you might be right. I looked up vinca before when I was trying to identify it on my own, but I think I got results for vinca minor instead. If it spreads as aggressively as google says it does, then I think I might pull it all up and plant something else. Thanks for your help!

Umm....yeah, Good luck pulling it out. And by that I mean it's impossible to "pull" it out. If you want rid of it, you will either have to spray with weedkiller or DIG it out, as it will put back up from the roots. (and dig and dig and....)

I planted some Vinca Major for my mom many years ago. She lives on a rocky, dry hillside. I felt she needed something to help hold the soil and it has done a good job even though it is in a very harsh environment with no care. I have Vinca Minor at my old house. It is in the shade and in better soil on flat ground and does not do near as well, but prettier in my opinion. The V. Minor is smaller and not as aggressive. I agree with Dorothy, if you want to get rid of V. Major weed killer will be handy if you have a lot to kill.

I don't really have anything to add about the vinca major or minor. I love the way they both look when I see them at other people's places, but never have planted them here because of their reputation for invasiveness.

Well it won't be the only thing I need to spray to get rid of. We have honeyvine milkweed EVERYWHERE in the backyard, and I feel like if I turn my back on it for five minutes it grows six inches. When we moved in there was one vine that had almost completely swallowed up a six foot tall crape myrtle. The vinca is tame compared to that stuff. Yikes.

We're doing well, Dawn, thanks for asking! I'm a bit sad to give up the veggie garden at the old place knowing that the buyers probably have it all ripped out by now, but I'm happy that we found a place that has a lot of nice trees and landscaping already established. Even a huge japanese maple!
