get a bag of straight topsoil or garden soil. it should just be pulverized black dirt.

that said, ive done fine germinating chile pepper seeds in the mg potting soil with coco coir

while it has fertilzer in it, the soil itself isnt terribly hot. ive never burned seedlings using commercial potting soil.

I think top soil is too heavy. I used to mix bagged top soil with peat and perlite but it was a lot of work and not much cheaper than 3.8 cf bales of Pro Mix BX or Fafrad #2.

MG soil has time released fert. I've started all my seeds (peppers, eggplants, perennial, annual, etc. in MG soil and have never had any problems with burn, stretching, etc. It's also what I will use for my container grown Eggplant and Hab's this year...all other peppers will go in the garden. BTW, if you plan to use this for container growing thru the season, that slow release fert is not going to last a full 3 months, because you will be watering alot more and the more you water the faster the fert is leeched away.
