most palm seeds will germinate faster if bottom heat is used. I have had great success germinating palms seeds between 85-90F. I have built my own seed germinator using an old 20 gallon fish tank and mini christmas lights for heat. It works great, or you may place the seeds on top of a computer monitor or refrigerator etc. (someplace with constant warmth) and you will see quicker germination. Good luck.

Smart thinking about CRTs and Frig heat, but my refrigerator has the compressor on the bottom, it's not warm on top??? Although it would be more efficient if it were...the rising heat makes the unit work harder...

Bottom heat is the way to go unless you are trying to germinate more temperate species. There are some types (like Trachys) which do better at room temperature. For tropicals however, bottom heat is a must. I planted my winter crop last weekend. Hopefully in a few weeks I'll see some shoots.
