will this germination method work?

I recieved a handfull of king palm seeds from Malowe in SoCal who posted here a couple of weeks ago (thanks a lot). Anyway, i soaked the seeds overnight, peeled the outer coat and placed them in a zip lock baggy between moist paper towels. Then i placed the baggie on top of the satellite reciever which is always warm. I have grown kings before (i have several in my yard too), but i was wondering if this would work? I don't have a green house in which to germinate the seeds so my only other option would be to try to germinate them in pots outside, but with our cool, wet winters they would most likely just rot. Any words of encouragement? discouragement? Any input would be appreciated.
