Warm up

With the cold weather haven't been around much. Warm up is coming they say. 40's today and 60's by Sunday. I'm ready. After two mornings with lows of zero and 12 this morning ready for a warm up. Hopefully with the bare worked ground any diseases and insects got frost bit also. With the warm weather hope to catch up a little.

Hope everyone was able to stay warm and safe during the cold spell. Overall things went well here. I will be outside enjoying the warm up and trying to finish up my garden work. Still have the asparagus bed to prepare.

Dawn hopefully will bend the tops for my greenhouse this weekend. They are saying a possible white Christmas here. Hope not as cold. Jay

Sure hope it warms up a bit. I still have some fall maintenance to do on our bees, and it needs to be warmer for that. Jerreth is cleaning up, and painting a "new" wood stove for our home. To do that, it has to be above 45 F.

It didn't warm up as much as they it would today but we did make it up to 42 degrees (was supposed to be 48).

We had the briefest amount of sunlight very, very early but then the clouds took over and it has been gray and gloomy ever since.

Saturday and Sunday and part of Monday are "supposed to be" nice and warm and sunny, but at this point, I'll only believe it when I see it.

Down here in Love County, our temps have been much lower than average. At the present time, we're on track to have our fourth coldest December since they started keeping records. I want that lovely October/November weather back again.

Jay, that's great that you're working on the greenhouse. When you have time, we want to hear all about it!

George, Hopefully this weekend's temperatures will allow you and Jerreth to work on your projects.

I've been in the kitchen doing holiday baking and candy making and I need to get back to it in a minute.

I really want some warmer weather, but at this point, I'd be happy just to see some sunshine.

Dawn we hit 46 today. So warmer than you. hehe. Heading out to go take money at the gate for a high school basketball tournament. Emailed Carol today and told her the mater seeds are on the way. And threw in some bean seeds also. Had to substitute Indian Stripe for Cherokee Purple. These were nice one fromthe seed from PV. And threw in KBX also. When I got out the Kellogg's Breakfast they were handy so thought she should have a few. hehe. Hope everyone has a warm weekend. Jay

I don't think we will have any problems accumulating chilling hours this winter.

    Jay,

It is just wrong for y'all to be warmer than us when we are so much farther south. Wrong, wrong, wrong. LOL

I knew our weather was misbehavin' when the overnight low went down to 19 degrees instead of the forecasted 25. So, I'm not surprised we didn't warm up very much.

I've been looking forward to warmer weather on the weekend, and tonight they changed our Saturday forecast...and not in a good way. We were supposed to hit about 58 degrees tomorrow, and now they are saying 48. I suppose 48 isn't bad, but 58 would be better. They're still saying 68 or so for Sunday, but I don't know that I believe them. They'll probably drop that forecast high about 10 degrees tomorrow.

We're usually in the 50s/60s in December, and this year we're having a hard time getting above 43 or 44 or 45. If this is El Nino, can we send him back and get a La Nina instead?

Carol is going to be so excited to get her tomato seeds. I'm still working on the list I'm going to send you. It is too long and I am trying to cut it back....because if I ask for too many, I'll plant too many----not that you would do anything like that, but I would

Dawn, you are right about me being excited, because he is sending some good ones. Now I have to solve the tomato cage problem. I think I can find room for more tomatoes, but I don't have enough cages for everything I would like to grow. I built a big thing out of PVC pipe one year and dropped strings down to containers. I may have to do that again, since I know some of mine will have to grow in containers.

I don't know if Jay is really cutting back on tomatoes, or if he is just sharing so he can buy more. At any rate, he is feeding our addictions......and I love it. I have seen how he sorts....she wanted this, so I'll send this one too, and Oh, she would probably like this one, and I have lots of these so I'll send a few. Remember I sorted the seed swap packages. LOL

I am ready for the warmer weekend to arrive, but I am not liking what I see for Monday night again. Only a few more weeks and we can start planting. WooHoo - I love spring!

    Carol,

I don't think Jay is cutting back at all.....I think he just changed his mind about what he was going to plant, and he's graciously sharing his seeds with the rest of us. Isn't that nice of him? I assume the sharing will leave a few empty spaces in his seed collection, but since his friends from another website are sending him some of their special seeds and crosses and back crosses and breeding experiments and such, he'll fill up those empty spaces fast.

I did notice he threw in a few extras, and you know, that's just the kind of guy he is--ask for 10 varieties and he'll send you 14. He is relentless and will not rest until everyone else overplants as much as he (and I) do. He is (gasp!) a tomato seed pusher. He's out there offering free seeds to get you hooked, and then what? Before you know it, you're plowing up the whole yard and planting like a maniac until your family stages an intervention and sends you to Tomato Rehab. Yes, it is true. So, watch yourself with all those freebie seeds from Jay because you just might find yourself sneaking onto the neighbor's property at night so you can secretly plant more, more and more tomatoes in their yard too. Where will it end?

I'm dreading the next cold spell too, especially since the 'warm weekend' isn't looking nearly as warm as they promised. I have a bad feeling about this winter, and I hope I'm wrong. Hee hee. I don't like winter, so to me, all winters are bad!

Spring is still a long way off, but at least it soon will be winter-sowing time and then seed-starting time, followed by potato and onion planting time, etc.

I love spring too and I hope it arrives early this year.

I had good intentions of cutting back. You both know about good intentions I'm sure. Yes I was thinking the other night. My list when I add the new ones that has came in hasn't shrunk much. Being around breedelrs is interesting and could get addictive in it's own right. So far have resisted the temptation. Have learned a lot of new and good info. They have very strong opinions on some things. Seed saving methods is one area where you can find many opinions and they are no different. Have learned what breeeding lines are and how they are used. But overall resisting the temptation to jump in and sink any deeper.
Did receive seeds for 4 varieties from PV. Also 2 more from another over there. So two steps back and a step and a half forward. LOL.
I only threw in one extra although I meant to send another and had already closed the box. And with Carol if the box comes back won't know if she sent it back or her post office did. LOL. The other one was a substitute. Just like the seed companies. I have plenty of substitutes. And feel Indian Stripe is a good sub.

Better get out and enjoy this beautiful day. Hope everyones has a great one. Jay

Talk about lucky, Indian Strip is one I didn't have and the Cherokee Purple that I had asked for earlier, I bought at Baker Creek, so I end up with both. How's that for luck. That post office had better not send ANYTHING back, or I could go "postal".

It's 37 degrees this morning at 10:30, I may have to go play outside. Of course, I think it will only last 2 days then it is back to super cold again. At least for nighttime temps.
