My initial look says it is probably fine. A number of mine look like they are "sluffing off skin" like that every year. Does the whole tree look like that or just that area?

I agree. Most of my trees look like this. It could be scale but I doubt it. If your concerned get some insecticidal soap and use that to be safe.

Some of mine does this from time to time and honestly I ended up throwing them away then they do it. I think I've had 4 to do this so far - bill moragne, penang peach, kimo, & now key west red. I don't know how they get it or where it comes from. I call it some sort of scab fungus that scrapes off. :/

Looks like a normal tree growing!!

I wouldn't worry about it either... It's their own skin.. Some have more wrinkles than others,. Lol!!

They didn't get that cocoa butter early!! ;-)
