They do make pretty great houseplants! Mine had severe burn going outside in the spring and never recovered from it so they seem to be extremely finicky about that. Surprisingly i have been a bit more successful with my bottle palm indoors than my spindle palm. I also like my bottle palm for the fact that it grows about the same speed as my spindle palm but does not gain a lot of height as it grows. They are good to start out as large plants though otherwise they take forever to get a bottle shape. Spindles take a while to get their shape too!

Both Spindles and Bottles will do surprisingly well under grow lights. For me though, the Spindle is a much more robust grower. I also love its super tropical appearance. I get frustrated with the Bottle, that just sits there. Both go outside in the growing season. Having learned my lesson years ago, they go into FULL shade for a few weeks, then full sun. Watch the watering on these though, as they are from semi-arid areas, so rotting can be an issue if your climate is too wet.

@Tropicalzone7 I seen your comment in a discussion about the corn like “flowers”. Coming out of your cat palm plant I was here looking for answers as to what exactly those are and what do they mean?

It only becomes a matter of what you are able to lift and move! These palms get HEAVY. That 'spindle' is like a log.
