Noticed you have no replies. It isn't possible to ID the grass from the picture. You may want to contact the editor at Dwell and ask if they know the species name of the grass, once you have a name ask again.

It is hard to tell what the grass is in the pictures.

If you are interested in growing native grasses, you may be better off looking for grasses that are native to your area (Chicago?) rather than the mountain grass in the picture.

Some popular native grasses great for the Chicago area would include Big Bluestem (Andropogon gerardi), Little Bluestem (schizachyrium scoparium), Indian Grass (Sorghastrum nutans), Prairie Dropseed (sporobolus heterolepis), Sideoats Grama (Bouteloua curtipendula). If you do some web searching on those title I am sure you will find some pictures of what those look like.

Not sure what your application is, but any of the native midwestern grasses listed above,(except the dropseed 'cuz its shorter) planted en masse, could provide a very similar aesthetic to the grass shown in that picture, but more appropriate for the Chicago region.
