Cutting with bark/stem discoloration. Please help.

Hi! I'm having a problem with a cutting (nice root system) and a weird change at the base of the trunk. I can't figure out what's going on, I don't think it is rot because it's firm and the color is almost tan/brown. The leaves are coming in nicely and growing rapidly. I thought it may have been sunburn, but I moved all of my plumeria into a shifting shade spot when temps here stayed steady at 99+. It almost looks like a fungus, but doesn't scratch off. Any ideas? I didn't notice this before today and I've been checking all of my cuttings daily.

I'm new to plumeria but I think it's sunburn. I think you should try and shade that part of the trunk. I've seen suggestions for foil and toilet paper tubes on the trunk or just getting the plant out of direct sunlight.

Hopefully some of the more experienced plumeria growers can give you some advise.

Yes, sunburn. If you fill your container with soil, pretty much to the rim, you won't have much sunburn problem. It's when there's a few inches of space above the soil line and below the pot rim for radiation to intensify around the trunk that there's sunburn issues.

I don't know if I explained that right, but hopefully you see what I mean. The plant should be fine, just don't let it get sunburned all the way around the trunk.
