Unfortunately, English ivy seems impervious. But don't plant it, even so! In one part of my yard my neighbor's ivy is always trying to creep through, and that's where we let our dog do her thing. The ivy just keeps rearing \its ugly head.

I can't think of a plant that would like all that nitrogen. What I did for this problem was buy a bag of K-Grow Dog and Cat Repellent from Kmart. It worked good. I haven't opened the bag at all this year, the dogs and hellish tomcat haven't been around. It's granualar stuff and all you have to do is sprinkle a couple of handfulls where you want the critters out.

This K-Grow Dog & Cat repellant, will it harm evergreen trees?
My neighbor walks his 3 dogs twice a day and they always choose to do their number on my evergreen trees. It irritates me to no end and I wonder how much the trees will take before they all die.
My husband doesn't want to make waves with the neighbor. I say the neighbor is inconsiderate. He just looks the other way when these dogs are doing their number.

I could sure use a bag of this too!!! Never heard of the stuff and thought I was just doomed to having to throw stuff at the neighboorhood free renage dogs and cats when I caught them in the yard!!

Does anyone have another source/brand for the K-Gro dog and cat repellant? I can't get anything to grow in front of my house because of the onslaught from the neighbor's dog, but all the Kmarts here were closed when Kmart started to struggle a few years ago.

you might consider a heavy wood chip mulch around the area near your mailbox - it looks nice and natural and you can just refresh the mulch once a year - rather than having dead or yellow plants there ... most prairie / native plants prefer not be fertilized so i cant think of any - that would stand up to lots of heavy nitrogen ...

I second the mulch suggestion. It's also kinder for the mailman than flowers which might attract bees.

i never thought of the mailman when i planted the flowers around my mailbox - i hope he is not cursing me ....
