water rooting trouble

ive been trying to water root some cuttings and the center is turning soft and is like mush. it isn't brown but its clear/murky. is that normal? they are fresh cuts. should they be calloused for a few days? they keep their shape until I poke my finger through the center.

Hi,
Let them callous over for a few days or a week. Cut off the mushy part before you let them out to callous over. It's not a good idea to try to water root them. It won't work because they like to be on the dry side.
