I'm not familiar with leadplant specifically but it is possible for plants to have mutations and produce atypical flowers colors. Some people like to plant seeds for this reason - just to see what unusual and unique things they can get. Then again it could be another plant. Do you have any pictures?

Its hard to really say without seeing a picture.

Though soil, light and moisture conditions will all play a role in flower color. And if you are looking in a book, the printed color is often quite different from reality.

I will have to post a picture come spring when it flowers again...the flower color is consistant throughout the prairie area and it is really so far off any description or picture I have seen that I don't think that it's a print issue, but it may very well be another plant with similar folliage. Thanks for the input and I will post again in the spring...Helen.

I feel silly suggesting this, but sometimes we miss the obvious. It isn't wood betony by any chance, is it?
