Do I have to remove grass?

I have the back area of my yard that I "let" go back to nature......I have alot of different grasses growing there, and alot of "wildflower" weeds and a few pines have actually taken root too...I have added some lemon grass and porter weed also....Can I work with what is there now...or do I need to strip it? Seems counter productive...as all the stuff there is natural? Can I just clear some areas for patches? ....It's 125'wide x 40'deep...at the far end of an acre, that backs up to wetlands ( another reason I'd like to keep as much natural as possible)

The wetland behind is a wet meadow, not pretty though...and since I'm slightly higher ground, the same natives won't grow in my yard as that meadow...amazing how a little elevation changes everything :) Just curious how you guys might handle that. Would I be best to burn it? to allow the natural, but some seeds to take hold also???
