Missing morning sun is less important for prairie species than missing afternoon/evening sun. I would steer away species than have issues with rot - no lupine or prickly pear. Most others would do great. I have silphiums, coneflowers, coreopsis, and various milkweeds growing in a bed on the west side of my house, and will be dividing/planting much more into that bed over the next week or two.

In the wild, grasses tend to dominate the truly unshaded prairie, and many of the prairie wildflowers are found somewhere around a lone tree, north slope, etc where they get a little shade or reprieve from the sun, especially in drought years.

Thanks for the clarification. I added some grasses since I read they help keep weeds under control. However, I don't think the species I added are that aggressive (little bluestem & river oats). I have gramma grass but decided not to add it as I worried about the grass takeover issues.

The Easyliving wildflower site has a nice list of plants for hot/sunny dry areas. They sell the seed and are very reasonable I've found.
Here is their list:

i agree that most prairie plants should do fine - 1/2 a day of full sun is plenty. I also think you're right that woodlands plants aren't a good choice. I think they could survive (probably) but would be prone to being smothered by the more vigorous prairie plants.
