I also am kind of new... Resist until there are three real leaves unfurled. It's so hard to resist watering but they will be fine if you don't.

The general rule is to wait until the leaves are about 6 inches in length. In most climates and soil mixes it seems to be accurate. Good luck

Totally agree with Kms2- mist until your leaves are 6-8" long. The stem has water to make the leaves. Once the leaves are long enough, the roots will want water to continue photosynthesis, Watering earlier there will not be sufficient roots to remove the moisture increasing the chance that the base of the stem will begin to rot. Patience is critical in the rooting process. It can take several months for leaves to become established.

This is why I like to root in clear pastic containers. As soon as you see those roots in the soil, then you can start your watering.

Keep up the misting.

I agree with Dave.. Clear plastic bottles are the way to go and then you don't keep messing with them and wondering...

Just give them time. We are the ones who cause most of the problems when rooting.. We can't keep our hands off of the containers.. some people poke and try to see In the soil... Some lift the cutting to see...

Bill has taught me to " leave them alone and don't be a mother hen". ;-). I hear him Often when I'm looking at my cuttings and I listen. I don't touch and look!!! Like k and B mentioned, once you see leaves about 6-10 inches, water. Then let then dry, water again. They love the wet/ dry cycle.
