Wikipedia has a pretty good explanation. It is a bit more than organic farming, incorporating a philosophical notion that the natural world is interconnected and it also brings in some spiritual and metaphysical components as well. Look up 'anthroposophy' or Rudolph Steiner for further enlightenment.

Is it important? I guess that depends entirely on one's viewpoint. It's a bit too woo-woo for me....reminds me of the 60's, although it's been around since the early part of the last century.
