Is this rot?

I've had a few cuttings with something like this on the bottom. They never got soft or anything but I thought it was rot when I saw it and freaked and recut them. Is it? Some were brown and some were black. It came off in chunks when I picked at it so I thought it was rot. ( I found this pic on the forum it's not mine )
