Good luck with it! You'll have to report back on how it is.

Also, just because I'm lazy, what are apache peppers?

A couple years back I used dry habs. from the local Mex. Mart in a brew.
A plain American Ale recipe.
I put an oz. or so in the boil.
After bottling and aging for a month it basically had no taste or heat from the peppers.
I set the cases aside for a little over 1 yr.
When I tried it again it had very little pepper taste but a nice warm throat burn after you swallowed.
I think the hops was too strong of a flavour so it over powered the chile taste.
I made a batch latter using a different recipe,a lager recipe but with ale yeast and used Saaz hops and it tasted much better chile wise.
I'm thinking about doing a Wheat Beer recipe with fruit and peppers next time - Cherry pepper wheat.

Hi tsheets, apache are quite small pepper plants that you can grow on a patio, not really hot, but they're dead easy to grow here in the UK...

Hello smokemaster, just experimenting really. I've made all sorts of weird brews in the past, but none with chillies. I have a nice wheat beer at the moment - with raspberry, would be nice with banana too! Strawberry cider is nice too, when it's hot... ;-)

Hi again tsheets,

just because you are busy looking after chilli plants, not lazy (har har!), I've done the legwork and here is a link about apaches, they are perfect for the rainy, cold, damp summers we have here. Not like you lucky gits who live in America! :-)

Neat looking little pepper! About the same heat as a cayenne based on that site.

Update on the chilli beer...

Last week I syphoned the beer and threw in three more quartered habs plus the old chillies, and then barrelled...
Drunk a pint tonight, not really ready, but wanted to try. Gives quite a warm tingle to the lips and back of throat, can't really taste the habs and apaches, but the spice is like mulled wine, only hotter. Added bonus is I made this beer very strong, so the heat slows you down! :-) Nice though!

Keg of Tom Caxtons ale with 6 apaches and 5 habs. Quite surprised how warm it is considering this is 42 pints...
