Depends where you live...but most of us like to prune in the early spring.

I am by no means an expert, but I am also in Orlando. I think it may depend on the plant. I have a Miami Rose that I just pruned three weeks ago, and I already have three 2" branches at the prune location. That is a super fast growing plant. I also have a musk rainbow that I took a cutting off of about a month ago. This is a compact plant that grows very slowly. The new branches have barely broken through and are just tiny green specs at this time.

I say if it is a fast grower then you are fine, but maybe be careful if you have compact varieties.

I had to prune Miami Rose about a week ago, too....was so tall and these winds with the afternoon storms were making the branch whack the eaves of the house. Who knows if it will work this late in the season, but I am going to try to root the two cuttings. My other choice was to throw them away! :) Also trying to root a couple of pudica, as well.... I think here in Florida, things just get pruned at all times because it can be like a jungle out there, otherwise!!!

I would be fine with pruning if I had no other choice. Generally I prefer to prune in the spring before the branches leaf out.
