Using a heating mat

My seed starting area is on the cool side so I finally got a mat to help along some of the warm weather sprouters. Now that I have the mat though I'm wondering what else I can use it for. The seeds just sprout and then move on to another location, but what about cuttings and such?
I might use it for getting some of the tropical bulbs to sprout such as caladiums, I'm guessing I also take them off the heat once they start going?
How about cuttings? Take then off once they get rooted? Or wait till they start growing actively?
I guess I'm looking for jobs for my heat mat, don't want it starting a couple trays of seed and then freeloading the rest of the year!
