There appeared to be lots of interest in people wanting to build their own misting system so I thought I would share mine. Sorry the image is rather crude, but I think it shows what it is intended to do, and makes the points.

The first part of the system is a simple 24 hour mechanical timer (#1). This is one that I already had, but any kind would work. Mine is set to come on at 8am and turns off about 5pm. That turns the whole system on in the morning and off in the evening. I donÂt run mine at night.

The next part of the system is the "cycle timer" (#2). I bought mine from one of the commercial greenhouse suppliers. This was the most costly part of the system (I think it was about $80 last year). It is a cycle timer and has adjustable run times from 1/2 minute up to thirty minutes each time it comes on. The on/off times are adjustable for operations every one minute thru 12 hours.

I plug the 12v power supply (#3) directly into the cycle timer. This power supply controls the small "seconds timer" (#4). It is all digital and adjustable for very short cycles which allows the system to be controlled in seconds instead of minuets. It too is actually a cycle timer which resets about every one minute and can be adjusted to "run" for anytime between one and sisty seconds. I adjusted mine to run for about 10 seconds during a one minute cycle. The one I bought was a Velleman #pmk 111, but it is now only offered as a kit now. I bought it assembled for about $12. You can get a similar one from www.canakit.com, but it cost more. I think it is about the same. There should be other places offering a similar product.

I wired the 24v power adapter (#5) that controls the water solenoid (#6) into the "seconds" timer. This turns the water on and off.

The rest of the system is just plumbing. The reducer (#7) is what connects the ¼" tubing to the solenoid valve. You will also need an adapter to change the threads of the solenoid valve which are pipe threads to fit hose fittings. These are standard adapters sold anywhere plumbing parts are found. The last part is just the mister risers that I got from HD.
