Both are indeed considered part of the same family, Moraceae. I've not heard of the specific pairing you're thinking about, but Osage Orange is used as a rootstock for Che and sometimes mulberries, so there is some interspecific compatibility in this family.

As to the point/usefulness of grafting fig to mulberry... I see some real issues. You want fig on its own roots so it can sprout back after cold damage. Also, fig shoots are so much thicker than mulberry, which might make a good graft difficult.

So my two cents are that it would be a neat thing to try and it just might work, but you'd probably be better off propagating the fig via cuttings.

Fig form is best, but I have never heard of their graft Compatibility. Figs are so easy to root,why would you need to graft them to red mulberry(Morus rubra)?

I can think of a couple of advantages for figs that are grafted onto mulberry.Nematode resistance.In sandy soils figs on their own roots , even if mulched aggressively don’t live long.Increased rate of growth,due to mulberries growing like Bats out of the lower regions. If you live in figs northern range,Graft slightly above ground level and cover the union with dirt 6 inches above the graft in the Fall.After the last sub zero date, uncover the graft and prune any dead wood above it off.Stand back because new growth may hit you in the face!

You must mean sugar sand, my sandy soil is just fine for figs, blackberries, blueberries,

raspberries & grape.

No! They have to be plants of the same genus, not just the same family! It definitely will not work.
