Rooting a cutting from weeping cherry

Hi,

There is this beautiful weeping cherry I have been admiring at my job. Well the other day I noticed a branch on the ground. It was down about two days. I brought it home and cut some small stems and put them in water. Can I root this? I have some rooting hormone somewhere. Does it go bad? I tried to root lilacs about 2 years ago with no luck. Any hints for rooting shrubs and trees?

For a cutting will need FIRM NEW GROWTH. apply 0.8% IBA (Rooting hormone ) (Not Rootone) stick in well drained soil & mist.....
best method is grafting for this plant.
