You could try air layering, but that implies you'll have to leave the tree for at least a few months. I don't know how soon is soon for your cutting it down.

With air layering, you could get blooms and fruit sooner than probably from a cutting and definitely faster than from a seed, but it will depend on the size of the branch that you chose.

Also note that air layering is confirmed to work with many types of trees and fruit trees, but I haven't actually heard of too many people trying for cherry trees. However, one of the fun parts of garden experiments is to see what works and what doesn't.

Cherries are usually propagated by grafting. If you ask over on Fruits and Orchards they'll tell you how to do it. But you'll need a young tree as a root stock.

I actually do have some smaller wild cherry trees to graft onto, so that might be a viable option.
