Rooting hormone helps cause a callus from which roots grow. How would this be helpful for any graft? Al

I raised the question on another board (after getting no response on this one at first) and got a couple of responses. Joereal said he'd tried it early on but couldn't tell if it helped, and Kiwinut mentioned that some nurseries use it routinely; Malcolm Manners raised the point that rooting hormones stimulate root, rather than cambial cells. It's thought to promote callous formation ... Is there some point in the process where it simply promotes cell division without regard to the cell's natural inclination? I ain't no botonist and won't try to pretend, but there's a thought, anyhow!

Besides helping form callus, IBA at least is also a bud
growth inhibitor. Why one would use this on a graft is puzzling, unless one wanted to reduce the growth of the newly grated bud for a time. Not sure what NAA would do, I'll have to research that. Often most rooting hormones have only IBA, and very few use a combination of both. I've found that using those with both, seems more effective for callusing.
