No harm in trying but not likely to get a high success rate. Apples are usually propagated by grafting.

I would imagine you would need some sort of mist system...

I planted 4 Crabapple 'Mary Potter' cuttings dipped in rootone-like powder in a 4" pot w/ perlite and put it in my greenhouse and watered along with my other plants. I've still got 3 of them and this was 8+ weeks ago.

Different apple cultivars vary considerably in their ability to root from cuttings. Some cultivars are fairly easy, some are reported to be impossible, many others fall somewhere in between. Just because one type roots easily or doesn't root at all, shouldn't lead you to believe that other cultivars will act similarly.

Also, you might get better results with a more well-draining medium. You don't want to allow the growing medium to retain too much moisture down at lower levels.
