Building a Larger Propagation Tray - Mini Green House

16 years ago

HI;

I have some trays of my cuttings going and am waiting for them to root. I really want to take more cuttings while we are in June.

The trays I am using are built with a upside down aquarium.

I was thinking of building a larger tray our of 2x4's and making a lid with a wood frame and heavy plastic tarp like material. I have heavy clear and heavy white plastic tarp / film on rolls.

Any reason the plastic over a wood frame would not work instead of the aquarium?

Any thoughts on building something larger like a mini green house with this method? Maybe a 4'x8'x 2' high box with a lid that lifts off and a area to walk in the center? Then I would wrap that box and the lid in either the white or the clear plastic.

One other question, for a real full size green house that your going to use mainly for propagation, (rooting cuttings) does it matter if it is in a spot that gets quite a bit of shade? You mainly want to control the moisture / humidity, correct?

Thanks
