How many cuttings from 1 branch

Say for example I wanted to take a cutting from a privet or loropetalum, when I take the cutting do I only take the cutting from the tip of each branch, or can I take 1 branch and divide it up in to 4 or 5 cuttings? I was wondering if there was an open spot on the top of the cutting if it would invite disease or not root as well because of it. Thanks

u can use both tip cuttings of firm new growth & semihard wood... apply 0.3% IBA (Rooting hormone) stick in well drained soil & mist.
as to "open spot on top of 1 hranch. IF wou have enough cuttings avoid this branch.
