My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.

My new favorite vendor!

Several weeks ago I did a small test order from them for a few azaleas. Then just recently I made a much larger order of various shrubs and trees- your basic lilacs, hydrangeas, rhodos, more azaleas and so on.

The plants I received were much larger than listed, well grown, symmetrical and quite nice. Far nicer than I could ever find locally and the selection is fairly extensive with regard to the desirable cultivars we all read about but can never find.

The plants were literally tied into the shipping box so that they could not shift, roll, or in any way be damaged. You could have dropped this box from the sky and nothing would have been hurt.

The shipping is not the cheapest in the world, but the packing and quality of plants more than makes up for it.

Since I recently moved to an area with next to nothing in the way of nurseries I was quite concerned about how I was going to come by the plants I needed to begin establishing a new property. No worry- these folks fill the void very nicely. You won't be disappointed.

    I've been dealing with Rare Find for several years and absolutely love them--their plants and service. i often recommend them on shrub/tree forums.

    The (over-priced)Pulmonaria 'Silverado' they sent me were not 'Silverado'. I guess they thought I'd be too stupid to know the difference. Life's too short to waste time wrangling with outfits like this one; I just move on....knowing that I would never be so stupid as to ever order from them again.

    Well, I have to disagree with mystery rose. I recently visited rare find nursery. I had ordered from them in the past and all of their plants not only grew, but thrived. The quality and selection of their plants are superior and impressive, but visiting the nursery was a wonderful educational experience! The staff is extremely knowledgeable, interested in helping out, willing to recommend plants and super friendly. I highly recommend a trip to the nursery and if you can make it happen, a tour through the rhododendron selection! Jason is a grass guru, Ron is extremely magnolia wise and well versed in plant hardiness, Hank is a walking rhododendron encyclopedia. You absolutely cannot go wrong with this nursery.

    mysteryrose, did you call them and tell them about the error? I've gotten the wrong plants from Rare Find twice, and each time they very cheerfully apologized and sent me the proper plant immediately. So then I had two plants for the price of one. Accidents happen. It's the customer service afterwards that's important.

    I've never mail ordered but I visited them a few times. They are great people, willing to help and go out of their way for you. Some plants might be a little overpriced, especially if they are commonly available but so much of what they carry is not common. It's a great place to visit, especially in May when the woods are full of blooming rhododendrons.

    laceyvail, I agree that mysteryrose should have contacted them to have the issue resolved.
    I luckily can shop there in person (an amazing experience) but I've seen the packing operation in full-swing as I waited for someone to ring my purchases up. They do a really, really good job from what I could observe. I agree they are a little expensive on some items. OTOH, there isn't anyone else on the East Coast, now that Roslyn is gone, carrying cutting-edge Rhododendron hybrids. If you ordered the plants from the PNW, the price you'd pay for air shipping would make them just as expensive.

    I just wanted to add to my experience this year. I bought a few plants where I paid in part using a gift certificate, the rest I charged. When I got my bill, they had charged the whole amount on my card, forgetting to credit me the gift certificate. I called and left a message explaining the situation. Hank called me the next day, even though they were closed and mailed me a check immediately for the difference. Very nice people.
