Your Philadendron is huge! I am sorry I don't know the name, but it sure is gorgeous!

Your Goldmine bloom is so lovely! Mine nubbed again this year...sigh...what is your secret with this one? I just can't seem to make it happy.

It's a split leaf philodendron, or more specifically Monstera deliciosa. We have them everywhere in Florida and they can be gigantic! They actually produce edible fruit... the corncob looking thing in the flower :)

The fruit takes about a year to mature... it will turn green when it's ready and takes like a mix of pineapple, banana and mango. yum!

Gidget....I had to move mine around on wheels to find it's happy place.

Heidi, where is the fruit in the cob thing? Is it long and narrow too? All our other cobs have fallen off when brown????

I love philodendrons for the tropical look. I have a variegated one that is already getting quite large. I have taken cuttings and now have three large plants. These plants love a summer outdoors here.

You snap the cobs off when they are green... should easily snap off when ready. You have to let it ripen for a few days and the green scales will fall off or knock off. The edible part is the white kernals underneath.

Be careful to not eat the scales! The acid levels are through the roof and your mouth will not enjoy the experience :)

Go ahead and pick it :)
Put it upright in a cup in a sunny window until the scales start falling off the base in a few days. This happens slowly (inch a day) so it may take you a week to eat the whole thing.

I highly recommend googling the plant because if you eat it too soon the oxalic acid will burn your mouth. Here's a link to more good information.
