Some grapes are more difficult to propagate from cuttings than others, but most can be easily propagated from either softwood or hardwood cuttings.

Softwood cuttings (late spring/early summer) - Take nodal cuttings with three or four nodes from closely noded, thinner vines. Remove foliage from lower nodes, and reduce foliage by up to half on large-leaved cuttings. Apply rooting hormone to lower portion and plant in well draining potting medium or well draining soil. Cuttings usually root in about a month.

Hardwood vine eye cuttings (late fall before significant winter cold periods) - Make a cut just above a bud and another about 2" below the bud. Place the cutting in well draining potting medium with the bottom of the bud resting on the surface of the potting medium. Water and store in a frost-free location with bottom heat (60 to 70 degrees F).

Hardwood cuttings (winter) - Choose vines that are still alive (haven't been killed back by freeze). Store 2' to 3' cuttings in a sheltered location by heeling them in (placing the lower 2/3's of the cutting into the soil). In mid- to late- winter, take and prepare cuttings as described in softwood cuttings paragraph, above. Water and store in a frost-free location with bottom heat (60 to 70 degrees F).

Thank you brandon7. I have propagated many plants, however, this is first time I'm propagating grapes. This is a vine I have watched for several years. It's completely neglected and despite that bears a lot of very nice fruit. The vines are incredibly long.
