Keep it up Ron and take notes. Learning from mistakes is the best way to save trying again what failed before. As you noted with the weigela the willingness to root varies greatly. If you plant 10 cuttings of the same plant, and only one roots, think about what was different about THAT cutting. Some plants tip cuttings root best, others will require more wood. It is all about the challenge. Al

Thanks Al. I've made a lot of mental notes about what went right and wrong so I guess I should write them down asap.

One thing to note was how large some of the roots were compared to others.Just goes to show how fast some plants develop compared to others of the same variety.

The medium I used was 50/50 vermiculite/pearlite
and I will probably add some very coarse sand to the mixture next year.

Ron you should try everblooming hydrangeas. They are very easy to propagate from stem cuttings. I usually have a high success rate. I have 19 of them going right now. Next year I'm shooting for a hundred. Hibiscus not so much. I have about 6 out of 30. I am trying to use the stems I cut down anyway at the end of the season. This was my first try with hibiscus at least I got a few out of them.

I love Hydrangeas even though I don't have any in my yard.I plan to buy a few starter shrubs next year(non-patented of course)to use as cutting stock.
I'm also interested in growing spruce trees.I can get 1-2' trees pretty cheap and around here the 4 footers sell easily for $40.00.
Hopefully by the time I retire in 7 years I will have something going to supplement my income and keep me off the couch and out of the Princesses hair!
