Hi! This is my first time growing cuttings. Following advice on this forum I took cuttings of lots of my shrubs - hydrangea, spirea, photinia, salvia, mock orange, some I don't know the names of, etc. I have them 5 to a 4" pot of perlite, peat, and a bit of miracle grow potting soil. They are in clear plastic shoe boxes, marbles on the bottom, water half way up the marbles, and another shoe box over top. They are on heating pads set on low (the type you use if you strain your back), with fluorescent lights over top in my laundry room. The room temperature is about 65 degrees. They are now 8 days old and most are showing new growth. None of the leaves fell off either. My questions: does this new growth mean roots? Should I leave them as they are in the very humid environment? Take off the lids and leave them on the mats? Or, I could move them into my greenhouse, where the temperature is in the 50's. I have soil heating cables I can set up in the greenhouse if required, but no lights. I'd originally thought they would stay as they are until roots came out the bottoms of the pots, but now reading some of the posts I'm concerned they might start to rot. But, I don't want to take the lids off if that is wrong, either. Any advice would be appreciated.
