Fig Tree Help

Hello all,

I am new here and hoping to find some help with my fig tree.

I am currently growing a fig tree in a large container, which is growing quite nicely. However, from the base of the tree there is an offshoot that has grown to a very tall height (8'), with only leaves at the top, leaving the rest of the tree below. It is a very healthy growth, so I do not want to simply remove and dispose of it.

I was wondering if it was possible to shorten this shoot by cutting out a middle section and grafting the two ends back together. Could it then be possible to have the middle portion rooted? Or grafted to another part of the tree?

I hope this question does not come along as strange.

Cheers.
