I searched the web and only found that dahlias can be divided by stem when they are just starting to grow in the spring.

Does that mean cuttings from dahlias now (in the fall) taken from the upper stem will not root? I'd like to root them, but obviously won't if it isn't possible! Any advice on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
