Compacted soil, Help!

Hi,

I'm Eden, new to these forums.

I'm attempting to help my son-in-law with landscaping a new home. The house frame is up, but already most of the clay ground has been compacted to the point where the rain water is not seeping in.

He wanted to raise the land a bit around the house, so our Georgia "clay dirt" was brought in. This dirt seems to be all over what started out to be virgin forest. :( All but the trees surrounding the property have been cut down and removed. I went over to see the house last Sunday and it was all mud. Did a number on my shoes.

Anyway, I understand I can't plant anything until the soil is loosened and amended. Since the labor is still working, I was wondering if there is equipment to do this.

I have to plant grass seed for this shaded area
