This is an interesting topic. I enjoyed looking into it a bit. I am of German extraction myself; I came across quite a bit of information on the Becker-Rombauer family: diaries, writings, publications, papers, etc. That is the Joy of Cooking family - the cookbook used by 5 generations of women in my family; not much on gardens, but quite a bit about the Beckers in Germany, cooking and the cookbooks, Irma Rombauer's involvement in gardening and hort societies, and other family information. Sometimes these things turn out to be treasure hunts in many ways.
