Chinese Evergreen (Aglaonema)

Hi

My father has a chinese evergreen and one of the longest stems is more than 2 feet long, unfortunately the part that is just above the soil has died so eventually the upper portion will die from lack of water and nutrients. Anyway the last foot of it is alive as far as i can tell and was wondering if i could cut the still living portion off and then somehow root it?

Anyone who knows how to do this effectively please help...theres a good chance that its already dead though.

Thanks
