They always grow on the inflo as far as I know. The plant knows to hang on to it as it is it's means of reproduction.
Takes about 9 months to mature. Some put a stocking over it when it gets close to opening so the seeds won't blow away in the wind. Good luck!

Thank you John. I'm excited to see my first seed pods grow. I've had this Celadine for 7 years. Usually I have a wasp or two living on my plumies but this year I've had a lot of bees buzzing around my plumerias and scaring me off because of a bee allergy. But yipee a seed pod! That almost makes up for having to run away from smelling my plumies as the bees chase me back into the house!

This one is a very large multi branch cutting that I rooted this summer. It smells wonderful. I can't believe it's producing seed pods already. I can see two for sure and it looks like there will be three more forming. And like you, I'm thrilled.

Kasie, thats a nice picture of your seed pods and pretty flowers too. How fun to get multiple seed pods on a new cutting! Good luck with the pods and with that interesting little inflo tip plumie also. :)

Lucky you. i was hoping for an pod but didn;t happen, yesterday my inflo fell off. It appear as if it had rot.

Is that how a plant gets rid of its inflo? Where it was attached too looks healthy, just worried.

Yes, the inflo stalk will just fall off. How or why it knows to hold on to the one with the seed pods is a question beyond my understanding. I'm just glad they do!

gracieanne- I have found that hummingbirds quickly discover that plumies do not have nectar so they are usually not pollinators. However some moths and some butterflies can be fooled for a short time which is enough to score. Bill

I think the only thing we have around here that's capable of pollinating a plumeria is the sphynx moth. Though I've never had a seed pod on any plumies they do occasionally pollinate my brugs.
