Moldy peppers

Fairly new to drying peppers. I have some that have been sitting on the counter waiting for me to dry them. They appear to be drying somewhat, but some have black on/in them. While cutting them for the dehydrator, the insides of the black ones have brown to black seeds. One had kind of a white mush where the seeds are. It smelled like it was fermenting. I discarded these, but my question is, "Do these black, fermenting peppers give off a different/better flavor or are they harmful?"
