We have members that grow them in NY & Cananda.
The key is freeze protection winter storage.

My advice would be to read up on Plumeria and get ready to "rumble" LOL.. in the spring.

Welcome to the forum! You can definitely grow plumerias in AL. I live in NYC and I have 8 different types and get plumeria blooms every single summer (not all of them bloom every year, but I always have a few in bloom every year). Plumeria "Divine" has been the most reliable bloomer for me. It blooms every single season and stays small so would do great in a pot and can easily be brought inside. Plumeria Obtusa is one of my favorites also although mine is just a seedling. Plumeria Pudica has proven to be a very good bloomer for me in the past (mine died of cold damage).

In your zone you will have to bring it in every year, but you can enjoy them as potted plants and they arent too hard to take care of and get to bloom!

Yes, you can absolutely grow them in Alabama, and in fact, there used to be a commercial grower somewhere in Louisiana. Most of us would recommend something like Jungle Jack's Divine, or Penang Peach or Dwarf Singapore Pink from Florida Colors Nursery to get started. Celadine is also a perennial favorite, though it will get taller than the others I mentioned.

There still is a tropical grower in Louisiana. It's Stokes Tropicals in Jeanerette, Louisiana. Their prices are even higher than Exotic Plumeria's prices, plus YOU pay for shipping.

Northern Alabama would be at least one zone colder than south Louisiana, but taking your plants in before cold weather would allow you to grow them there.

Hello, I was very excited to have my first Plumeria blooms this summer and it continued to bloom. It's taken 3 years and I have another that I've had for 5 years, but still hasn't bloomed. I bought the cuttings in New Orleans at the French Market.

By the pictures on the inet, this tree is going to get pretty big. I was wondering if we can plant the tree in the ground in Alabama. What would we have to do to protect it during the winter?
